Synopsis:

Applications of structural steel in buildings are relatively common but the true question is how to maximize the utilization of steel materials for greater optimization. BlueScope Steel is the world’s largest pre-engineered building company with a US$1.3 billion (RM4 billion) turnover in 2010. It carries well established pre-engineered building brands such as Butler®, Varco-Pruden®, Liberty®, HCI® and Probuild™. In this presentation, the speakers will be sharing their knowledge and insights of structural steel applications for pre-engineered buildings, structural decking and lightweight trusses. Steel as a sustainable construction material is able to provide greater efficiency on site with best practices and detailed planning at early stages of construction.

About the Speakers:  

Ir. Goh Thian Aun has 15 years experience in consulting, construction and management. Ir. Goh is the Global Brand Manager for Probuild™ and he is part of the Butler® solutions team for the ASEAN region. He is a member of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia and the Board of Engineers Malaysia since 2000. Ir. Goh has worked successfully in BlueScope for the last 4 years, expanding the pre-engineered buildings business in Malaysia, and was recently made responsible for both Singapore and Brunei. He leads a team of 40 professionals,of which more than 20 are civil & structural engineers.

Mr. Yee Yoke Chuan is a Civil Engineer with 19 years experience in the building industry. He has been registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia since 1994. Mr Yee started his career with Ranhill Bersekutu as a Design Engineer and worked on projects utilizing structural steel. He has been working with BlueScope for the past 16 years, beginning with BHP Engineering as a Project Engineer. He was involved in engineering works pertaining to all BHP’s in-house projects in Malaysia. He has then continued working in the building products section of BHP, which is now known as BlueScope Lysaght Malaysia. He is the Technical Marketing Manager who oversees the specifications of roofing & walling products, trusses and structural decking for both Malaysia and Singapore. Products such as Kliplok®, Smartruss® and Bondek® are some of the products he is dealing with on a daily basis.
