INTRODUCTION

The Graduate & Student (G&S) Section - Young Engineers Section (YES) of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia was established more than 30 years ago (in the early 70s). The main objective of the YES Section is to cultivate and expose young engineers into the professional engineering world. At the same time, this exposure will enhance their rapport among fellow engineers and acts as a platform for them to embark on a career in engineering.

As of May 2010, the IEM Southern Branch YES Section has over 1500 members, which amounts to 70% of the total IEM Southern Branch membership. Approximately 38% of this figure comprise of Graduate members, with the balance being Student members.

The YES Section of IEM Southern Branch started off as a student chapter in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). Beginning 2006, a formal YES Section of the Southern Branch of IEM was formed to coordinate G&S activities in the southern region of Malaysia. Through the respective IEM student chapters of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), the welfare and interests of student members were also looked after.
