Synopsis

Protection of people, livestock, buildings, and equipment, especially modern IT and medical equipment against hazards are indispensable in electrical system design. The guidance is given by BS 6651: Code of Practice for Protection of Structure against Lightning practiced in Malaysia may underestimate the threat and the protection against lightning hazards. The new IEC 62305 (MS IEC 62305) international standards series, which replaces BS 6651 addresses the shortcomings of BS 6651.

Objective

Discuss the problems caused by lightning, the effective protective solutions to ensure electrical system reliability and business continuity and profitability, and the key changes of IEC62305 standards compared with BS 6651.
