Webinar: Talk on “The Fundamentals and Applications of Geosynthetics”

Date: Friday, 25 June 2021
Time: 9.30 a.m. - 11.30 a.m. (Registration start at 9.00 a.m)
Venue: ZOOM Application
Speaker: Ir. Marcus Jong Ching Joo, TenCate Geosynthetics Asia Sdn. Bhd.

Synopsis

Geosynthetics was introduced to the construction industry in the 1970s and has now become the third-largest construction material after concrete and steel. The rapid demand and acceptance of geosynthetics for its versatile solutions in the industry are applied in various civil engineering disciplines – geotechnical, hydraulic, environmental, transportation, and more. While it is important for engineers to understand the design philosophy of geosynthetics, it is also essential to have in-depth materials knowledge to ensure practical and effective solutions are derived. Geosynthetics-reinforced soil structure is now commonly seen in the Malaysian construction industry. Selecting correct and suitable geosynthetics products is crucial to ensure the long-term functionality of the reinforced soil wall and slope structure. Generally, this application requires geosynthetics products to function as reinforcement, filtration, and surface erosion control, etc.

The objective of the talk is also to give a better understanding to young engineers and practicing engineers to get some insight on the above topic.
